About the Library

The SDE has a separate Library of its own with a fairly good collection of books, dissertations, periodicals, reference books etc. At present the library has more than 30,000 books covering a wide range of subjects. Besides catering the academic needs of the students, distant learners and the faculty members, the Library also has profound collection of research journals, UGC NET & JRF guides, Civil Service Exam materials and previous question papers. Hence it has built up a balanced and rich collection on all branches of knowledge, as well as books of general interest in various subject fields. Library automation is done using KOHA software which facilitates all in-house operations of the library. The library currently subscribes to more than 8 journals of various subject fields.

Membership

An amount of Rs. 525/- has to be remitted by the students to obtain membership in the Library, of which Rs. 420/- will be refunded on completion of the course. The non members can make use of the library resources and the reference services by producing their student's ID proof.

    Access to the resources

    The operation of the Library is automated and bibliographic details of the collection can be accessed using KOHA software.The catalogue is available online. Searches can be made by author, title,subject, class number,publish etc.

    Working hours

    Library remains open from 10 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. on all working days. However keeping in view of the needs of the Students, the library is kept open beyond normal days/hours and timings are notified on the Library Notice Board.


    Organization
    Documents are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme and indexed according to Anglo American Cataloguing Rules with local modifications. Dictionary catalogue in card form with ample cross-reference entries are employed. The Card Catalogue is maintained in the Catalogue Cabinet.


    Career Corner
    A Career Corner has been established for the students who appear in various competitive examinations at International, National, and Regional levels and UGC- NET & JRF Examinations. The corner is rich in collection covering almost all the subjects. It is useful for students appearing in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), UGC- National Education Test (NET), University Entrance Test, , General Aptitude Test (GAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Test of English as Foreign Language(TOEFL) etc. Special provisions have been made for the purchase of material for these examinations. Consultation in Career Corner is not restricted to the SDE students only, the students coming from other departments and different institutes can also consult this collection. Every effort is being made to update the corner in order to encourage the talented students.

    Library Rules
  • Members are requested to show their SDE identity card before entering the Library.

  • Members are not permitted to take personal belongings inside the library.

  • Strict silence shall be observed in the Library.

  • Members are not allowed to use mobile phones inside the library

  • Books should be handled with care.

  • Readers are not permitted to take books and other printed materials inside the Library.

  • Library is a place for individual study and research and members are therefore to conduct themselves inside the library in such a manner as is conducive to this purpose.

  • Members shall leave the library ten minutes before the closing of the library.

  • Journals, theses, reference books, damaged or worn out books will not be issued on loan.

  • A book can be re-issued to the same person if there is no reservation for it. Not more than two consecutive renewals are permitted. Further renewal is not permitted at any cause.

  • Damage or loss of books on loan shall be reported to the Librarian immediately. Borrowers are responsible for any damage or loss of books occurring during loan period. Any mark or mutilation on book will be considered damage and will be dealt with accordingly.

  • If a book is lost, the borrower must replace it with its latest edition. If the book is out of print, the current price plus 2/3rd penal charge will be levied from the borrower. If the book is out of print the price will be fixed according to the discretion of the librarian, taking into account the importance and demand of the book.

  • A member can reserve at a time as many number of books as he/she is eligible to borrow, provided they are issued out. Member will be informed by email as and when the book is ready for issue, which is to be collected within the period specified.

  • Any change in address/contact no/Designation should be informed to the librarian.
